The grassy clearings could keep a few specific plant species of salt plains remained up till now.
The Hajta marsh near Jászberény is the only relics of the Jászság, which preserves the mood of the old march world. Creation of the area of 117 ha located at the border of two phytogeographical units - the area between Danube and Tisza and the area east of the river Tisza- was caused by the ancient Zagyva. The larger floods also flowed over the Hajta even 200 years ago and left chain of marshes behind them. In the lake loach and crucian live, on lower parts marsh orchis belonging to the family of orchids looks glorious.

The Landscape Protection District of Middle TiszaThe Landscape Protection District of Middle Tisza embraces a total river section of 136 km from Kisköre to the railway bridge of Szolnok, from Tószeg to Tiszazug, its total extension is 9452 ha. On its northern part the bird reservation of Pély and the strongly protected area of Óballa can be found, in the middle the strongly protected area of Vezseny and on the southern part of it the bank-swallow plant of Tiszakécske. On the floodplain willow and poplar gallery forests are grown on the both sides of the river, embrace the grasses and oxbows. Their continuity is interrupted by planted fine poplar plantation. The landscape is very rich and varied in wildlife, vertebrata are mostly represented by the birds in both species and their number. Among the strongly protected species the black stork regularly broods here, the spoonbill and frog hunting eagle occasionally. Heronries are remarkable.
Many mammalia can find excellent life conditions in the region. The digging forests grown on the flooded side of the dykes are similar like gallery forests, which were planted in material excavation pits at the time of dyke building against wind and wave. When flood occurs these pits are filled by water, which are favourite propagation places of fish and amphibia. The Sziget- major of Tiszakürt and Nagygyep of Cibakháza as salt plain remains make floodplain grasses varied. On the right side of the river Tisza the dyke crown is suitable to cycling. Park of Szenttamás near Törökszentmiklós can be found south of the town. The park of the eclectic castle with an area of 11 ha was established around 1730. From the original plant cover of the eastern part of the park a few solitaire oak trees come out. The yard of the castle and the park in front of the castle are geometrically arranged, larger part of the garden bears stylistic marks of landscape design. The castle builder Imre Almásy was a famous English thoroughbred -breeder. Race -horses, stud of the Szenttamás centre were known all over in Europe. Tisza lakeThe Bird reservation of the Lake Tisza is a protected area with nation-wide importance, which combines a part of about 2500ha from the Kisköre water-basin located north of railway line between Tiszafüred and Poroszló. In summer the western part of the reservation is uniformly covered by water, on the eastern part of it mortlakes, digging pits, marshy areas and dry areas covered by brushwood and forest can be found. One of the most valuable living places is a mixed heronry created in a willow forest. It is unique experience to see the nest of the large heron built on a tree. The specific trees of the beautiful gallery forest grown by the Tisza oxbow are oak, acacia, white poplar, white willow, but maple and Hungarian ash also can occur. The most valuable representatives of the rich bird life are small heron and red heron. Its main interest is water grits covering water surface, which is the smallest angiosperm plant in the world.
The Bige-fertő is located 11 km east of Kunhegyes. Unfortunately the area of the old deep marsh gradually reduces more and more. Tree lines, smaller groups of tree, farms, salt- grasses characterize the old marsh. The Gergely-hill is a typical one, which is located north of Bige- fertő. This is one of the largest hills in the region, with basic diameter of 80-90 m. Its botanic value is the remained loess.
The Botanic Garden of Tiszaigar is one of the most important collections of trees in the Körös-Tisza Region. Fundamentals of the botanic garden were established by a walking garden of 2 ha built by Péter Széky in 1867. At that time native trees of the region were planted in the garden later it was enriched by unique plants brought here from far countries and its area was gradually extended. Currently 373 kinds of tree and bush can be found in the botanic garden. Among them the most famous are American silk pine, Caucassian fir-tree, Serbian spruce which is known relics of Drina-valley in Yugoslavia and mammoth tree which is recognised as largest tree in the world. Among the trees which have the same age as the botanic garden has we can wonder the thickest yeu -tree of the country. Oak trees are the most beautiful and largest which are native here. NagykunságThe Körös-floodplain from the junction of Kettős- Körös and Sebes- Körös to Szelevény belongs to the National Park of Körös-Maros with an area of 6580 ha. In the floodplain only few botanic attractions can be found but vegetation escaped from the surrounding agricultural fields found shelter here. The bed remains and grasses recall the old marsh world of the plain. Among the aquatic plant communities many protected ones can be found. These are white water- lily, Salvinia natans, water- chestnut and goat's beard. Willow-poplar soft- wood gallery forests, bush willows are the most common and oak-ash-elm hard- wood gallery forests are less common. An interesting creeper is red gallery forest vine soft-stalked rare plant is summer snow- flake. Our brilliant tree species the black poplars have final genetic shelter in this floodplain. The decayed old willows with spiral trunk are mainly grown on the banks of digging pits and varied oxbows.
The Dévaványa-Ecseg plains the largest area of the National Park of Körös-Maros are mosaic of the remained salt plains laying at the southern and western end of ancient Nagy-Sárrét. Outstanding natural value of the region is European bustard. Most vital population of Central Europe and Hungary lives here. Here was established the Bustard Reservation in 1975 where bustard protection work of the National Park has been focused on open-air protection of the stock. For the interested visitors the protected area is presented by the Visitor Centre of Réhely, which can be found in half way between Dévaványa and Ecsegfalva. The Nature Preservation Area of Kecskeri-Plain is located in the western part of administration border of Karcag in the neighbourhood of Kisújszállás, Kenderes and Kunhegyes. Its extension is 1226 ha, most of which is salt plain but water reservoir and marsh are also important. East of Kecskeri-plain we can find two marsh remains, one of them is Dudás- morass surrounded by an oak plantation and circular dam and Bige-morass surrounded by grass-lands. Among the aqueous living places Kontra-marsh is outstanding with its variety and richness of species. The most known water- course of the region is Kecske-brooklet, which was the deepest part of the marsh. When it was drained a circular dam was built around it and currently it is used as water reservoir. On this area the nesting of three strongly protected bird species are mentionable: heron, bustard and Glareola.
The Nature Preservation Area of Zádor-bridge is located east of the administration area of Karcag by the former road connecting Pest with Debrecen. It is 21 years older than its famous brother, the large nine-holed bridge of Hortobágy. It was put into traffic in 1809. Originally it was also nine-holed but the spring flood of 1830 took its two outside pillars away. Today this "landed bridge" is a surprising sight because water of the canal flows not under the important establishment but rather on both sides outside it.
Cumanian hills of Karcag have hemispherical form with height of 5-10 m, diameter of 20-25m, which mostly can be found near water. Archaeological researches found out that these cover marks of churches, cemeteries and castles. Near Karcag 24 Cumanian hills are protected. Since 2000 every Cumanian hill has enjoyed protection in Hungary by law.

This is the only region of the Plain where in forming of the surface the ancient Danube flowed here played dominant role. The morass is located on a deep area with slight inclination. In its centre an artificial moat is placed. Its water is strongly alkaline from sodium- carbonate. Usually its depth is not larger than 1 metre, on its whole area reeds are dominant. Its nesting birds are specific marshy and reedy species: spoonbill, grebe, small heron, ferruginous duck, coot, water- hen, duck- hawk. It is favourite propagation place of amphibia.
